WHAT PEOPLE SAY

Accounts from households across Phuket

Phuket Town · Apr 2025

"My mother and I had been avoiding a particular conversation for about two years. The session at Amity did not push us — it gave us a way to begin. The facilitator was patient and never made either of us feel judged. We left with the printed guide and actually used it at home the following week."

"We are a mixed household — my wife is Thai and I am British — and sorting through our household documents was more complicated than I expected. The workshop was well-paced and the checklist actually covered things we had not thought of. I would have liked a second session to go through a few items in more detail, but overall it was very useful."

"The Shared Plan package helped our family put into words things we had each assumed the others understood. Seeing it written down in simple language — the briefing sheet especially — made a real difference. Nattaya was thoughtful throughout and clearly took our specific situation seriously."

"I was a little nervous that the session would feel like being given advice I had not asked for. It was nothing like that. Siriporn explained the framework first and it was clear throughout that the decisions were ours. I left with a much clearer sense of how to start a conversation I had been putting off."

"The document workshop was thorough. There were six of us in the group — different household situations — and Marcus managed the pace well so nobody felt rushed or left behind. The folder system they provide is simple and genuinely usable, which is not always the case with this sort of thing."

"We went through the Shared Plan package with our three adult children. The sessions were spread across about ten days which gave everyone time to think between meetings. The summary sheet at the end was the most useful part — everyone keeps a copy and we have referred to it several times already."

Shared Plan & Family Summary

HOW IT WORKED IN PRACTICE

Three household stories

These accounts reflect common situations. Details have been changed to preserve privacy.

A household preparing for a parent's move into care

THE SITUATION

An elderly mother in Phuket Town was moving to supported accommodation. Her three adult children — two in Thailand and one abroad — could not agree on how to approach the conversation with her or how to handle the household documents.

WHAT WE DID

We facilitated two Conversation Care Sessions — one with the children before involving their mother, one with the full family together. We then ran the Document Workshop to work through the household paperwork with the two children based locally.

THE OUTCOME

The family described the initial sibling session as the most useful starting point — it allowed them to align before the wider family conversation. The documents were organised within a single workshop and the family knew clearly which items needed formal attention from a solicitor.

"We had been circling this for months. Two sessions and a workshop moved us further than we had managed on our own in half a year."

An expatriate couple updating their household arrangements

THE SITUATION

A British-Thai couple who had lived in Phuket for twelve years wanted to update their shared arrangements and produce a written summary for their children and extended family. They were unsure where to begin and which matters needed a lawyer.

WHAT WE DID

We delivered the Shared Plan & Family Summary Package over three sessions across two weeks. We worked through their shared-household decisions, produced a written plan, and clearly separated the items within our scope from those that required formal legal documentation.

THE OUTCOME

The couple left with a written plan and briefing sheet, and a clear list of two specific items to take to a solicitor — with a name from our referral network. They reported feeling less overwhelmed by the process than they had expected going in.

"The briefing sheet is on the notice board at home. Everyone in the family now knows where things stand."
